All Star Tower Defense X now has 109 units spread across 5 elements, and picking the right ones matters more than ever. After Update 6 reshuffled the meta in March 2026, several fan-favorite units got promoted while others fell hard. This tier list breaks down exactly which units deserve your resources and which ones you can safely skip.
We've tested every unit across Story mode, Infinite mode, and Portal challenges to make sure these rankings hold up where it counts. If you're also looking for free summons, check out our ASTD X codes page for the latest working codes.
These are the units that define the current meta. If you own any of them, they should be in your lineup for every serious run. S Tier units outperform everything else in raw damage, utility, or both.
Michishibo sits at the absolute top. He's an Unbound unit with 10,000 ATK, a range of 3, and a deployment cost of $3,500. His signature ability, "One Punch," delivers the highest raw DPS in the game — nothing else comes close in single-target burst. The short range means you need to position him carefully, but the payoff is worth every dollar.
Pair him with a range-boosting support like Xero and Michishibo becomes nearly unstoppable. He's the unit you build your entire team around.
Etri is the other Unbound powerhouse you want. At 8,000 ATK with a massive 30 range and a $3,000 cost, she's more versatile than Michishibo. Her "Reality Bender" ability deals devastating AoE damage while maintaining strong single-target DPS. She handles both boss waves and swarm waves without breaking a sweat.
Where Michishibo is a scalpel, Etri is a sledgehammer. You ideally want both.
Spiral Pilot holds the record for highest DPS at max level — a staggering 14,708. The catch is that he's an event-limited unit, so you can't farm him whenever you want. If you managed to pull him during his event window, congratulations. He's a permanent fixture in your roster.
His scaling at higher levels is unmatched. In Infinite mode, Spiral Pilot keeps dealing relevant damage long after other units fall off.
Infinite range. Reliable AoE. Consistent damage output across every game mode. Slayer Mage doesn't have the flashiest numbers on paper, but his infinite range means he's always contributing damage from the moment you place him. He's essential for Infinite mode and makes Story mode significantly easier.
Think of Slayer Mage as your insurance policy. He covers gaps that other units leave open.
Spider Boss combines top-tier damage with excellent crowd control. His abilities lock down groups of enemies while dealing massive AoE, making him the ideal unit for wave-heavy stages. He shines in Portal challenges where enemy density gets extreme.
His crowd control alone would make him A Tier. The fact that his damage also competes with dedicated DPS units pushes him firmly into S.
A Tier units are strong picks that perform well in most situations. They won't carry a run single-handedly like S Tier, but they're reliable, efficient, and fill important roles in any balanced team composition.
Supreme Leader packs 12,000 ATK with a 35 range — the best stat combination of any Unbound unit on paper. So why isn't he S Tier? His attack speed holds him back. The raw numbers are impressive, but his actual DPS per second trails behind Michishibo and Etri in practice. Still, he's a monster in the right setup.
Flaming Tiger is a Primal unit you earn from Trials, and his burn DPS is devastating over time. The burn stacks with other damage sources, making him an excellent secondary damage dealer. He pairs especially well with other fire-element units for elemental synergy bonuses.
Beast Cloak II Zaruto transforms mid-battle, dramatically increasing his DPS during the transformation window. When he's in beast form, his damage rivals S Tier units. The downside is the inconsistency — outside of transformation, he's solid but not spectacular. If you can time his placement to sync transformations with boss waves, he's incredible.
Xero is the best support unit in the game, period. His utility buffs and range boosts make every other unit on your team better. He's the reason Michishibo can function with only 3 range. He's the reason your backline DPS units hit harder. Every team needs Xero.

Newly promoted to A Tier after Update 6 gave him significant buffs. Jin Sung's damage scaling improved across the board, and his ability cooldowns were reduced. He went from a borderline B Tier pick to a reliable A Tier damage dealer overnight. Keep an eye on him — future updates might push him even higher.
The Eternal evolution of Kosuke is a late-game investment that pays off. His evolved form gains substantial stat boosts and an improved ability kit. He requires significant resources to reach Eternal status, but the end result is a unit that can hold his own in any content.
Raw DPS is the name of the game for The Strongest One. He doesn't bring utility, he doesn't bring crowd control — he just hits extremely hard. In compositions where you already have support and control covered, he's one of the best pure damage options available.
Magma Marine combines solid AoE coverage with burn damage over time. He's essentially a more accessible version of Flaming Tiger with slightly lower peak damage but better availability. His AoE radius is generous, making him effective even without perfect positioning.
Crow delivers exceptional burst damage on a cooldown. He won't top DPS charts over a full run, but his burst windows can delete boss health bars. Use him as a boss-killer alongside sustained damage units for the best results.
Blood Queen brings a unique combination of Red-element AoE damage and lifesteal. The lifesteal won't save a failing run, but it provides a comfort margin that lets you invest less in defensive units. Her AoE is wide enough to handle most swarm scenarios.
Sky God's strength is his enormous AoE radius. He covers more ground than almost any other unit, making him invaluable on maps with wide paths or multiple lanes. His per-hit damage is moderate, but the sheer number of enemies he hits per attack compensates.
B Tier units are functional and can fill roster spots effectively, especially early in your progression. They won't hold up as well in high-level Infinite runs or hard Portal challenges, but they're far from dead weight.
King Kaoe's 75% team damage buff makes him one of the strongest support units in theory. In practice, his own damage is negligible and his buff uptime isn't 100%. He's a force multiplier — great when your team is already strong, but he can't carry a weak lineup. If you're running multiple S Tier damage dealers, King Kaoe amplifies them significantly.
Freeze debuffs are powerful crowd control, and Freezer delivers them consistently. His damage is respectable for a utility unit, and the freeze duration gives your damage dealers extra time to burn targets down. He falls to B Tier because his freeze becomes less reliable against late-game bosses with CC resistance.
Dark Wing was S Tier before Update 6. The cost increase in that patch hit him hard — his deployment cost is now too high relative to the damage he provides. He's still a strong unit with good AoE and solid stats, but the economic inefficiency drops him to B Tier. If you've already invested in him, he's still usable. Just don't prioritize him over the units above.
Fire Officer delivers consistent fire-element damage at a reasonable cost. Venus provides decent crowd control with poison effects. Explosion Artist has strong burst AoE but suffers from long cooldowns. Super Borul is a reliable all-rounder who doesn't excel in any one area but doesn't have glaring weaknesses either.
C Tier units serve a purpose in the early game or in very specific niche situations, but they're the first to get replaced as your roster improves. Don't invest heavy resources into these unless you have no alternatives.
Whitestache used to be a solid mid-tier pick, but power creep has pushed him down steadily. His stats haven't kept pace with newer units, and his abilities feel outdated compared to what A and S Tier options bring. He's functional for clearing early Story content, but that's about it.
Another victim of power creep. Super God Koku was once a respectable damage dealer, but the units introduced in Updates 5 and 6 simply outclass him in every category. His transformation mechanic is cool thematically but doesn't translate to competitive DPS anymore.
Here's the exception to the "don't invest in C Tier" rule. Ramen Grill-Master is the best cash generator in the game, producing roughly $1,500 per wave. He's essential in the early waves of every run to fund your S and A Tier deployments. His combat stats are terrible, but that's not why you use him. Think of him as an economic unit, not a combat one.
Shirtless Magician has an interesting kit but poor scaling. Killer (Serious) was nerfed one too many times. Borul is the unevolved version of Super Borul and simply lacks the stats to compete. Kosuke (TS) is the pre-Eternal form — fine as a stepping stone but not worth keeping in your active lineup once you evolve him.
Here's the full ranking at a glance. Use this as a quick reference when building your teams or deciding which units to upgrade next.

We don't just look at one number and call it a day. Our rankings factor in five core criteria, weighted by how much they affect real gameplay outcomes.
Raw damage matters, but we measure it across full runs — not just peak burst windows. A unit that deals 14,000 DPS for 5 seconds and then sits idle isn't necessarily better than one dealing 8,000 DPS consistently. We run full Infinite mode sessions and track cumulative damage contribution for each unit.
Freeze effects, slows, range buffs, and team damage amplification all count. Xero's range boost, for example, doesn't show up in DPS charts but dramatically improves team performance. We weight utility based on how much it impacts total team output, not just the individual unit's stats.
Some units are average alone but become A Tier when paired with the right teammates. Michishibo plus Xero is the classic example. We test common team compositions and note which units gain or lose value depending on their teammates. Units that require very specific partners to function are ranked lower than those that perform well in any team.
ASTD X has Story mode, Infinite mode, Portal challenges, and Trials. A unit that dominates one mode but fails in the others isn't as valuable as one that performs well everywhere. Our rankings prioritize versatility, though we note when a unit has a specific mode where it excels.
How easy is it to actually get the unit? Spiral Pilot is S Tier on merit, but we note that he's event-limited. Conversely, units that are easy to summon and upgrade get a slight edge when their performance is comparable to harder-to-get alternatives. The Star Pass system and Portal mechanics introduced in recent updates have changed the accessibility landscape, and we factor that in.
The March 2026 Update 6 brought major balance shifts. Jin Sung received direct buffs that pushed him into A Tier. Dark Wing's deployment cost increase knocked him from S to B. The new Traits system — especially the "All Star" trait with its +15% DMG, +15% SPA, and +10% Range bonuses — added another layer of unit evaluation. We've accounted for all of these changes in our current rankings.

Michishibo is widely considered the best unit in ASTD X as of May 2026. With 10,000 ATK and the "One Punch" ability, he delivers the highest raw DPS in the game at a placement cost of $3,500. Pair him with Xero for range support and he becomes nearly unbeatable.
Update 6 (March 2026) promoted Jin Sung to A Tier thanks to direct stat and cooldown buffs. Dark Wing was demoted from S to B Tier because his deployment cost increased significantly. The update also introduced the Traits system, with the "All Star" trait (+15% DMG, +15% SPA, +10% Range) becoming the most sought-after roll for any unit.
Absolutely. Spiral Pilot has the highest DPS at max level (14,708) in the entire game. The problem is that he's event-limited, so you can only obtain him during specific seasonal events. If you get the chance to farm him, do it — he's a permanent S Tier fixture once you have him.
The "All Star" trait is the best in the game. It provides +15% DMG, +15% SPA (attack speed), and +10% Range. It's a universal upgrade that benefits every unit, whether they're a damage dealer, support, or utility pick. Re-roll traits until you land this one on your S Tier units.
ASTD X uses a 5-element system. Red beats Green, Green beats Blue, and Blue beats Red — forming a standard triangle. Purple and Orange are mutual counters to each other. Matching the right element against enemies gives a significant damage bonus, so it's worth building teams with element coverage in mind.
Ramen Grill-Master is the top cash generator, producing roughly $1,500 per wave. He's essential in the opening waves of every run to fund your stronger units. His combat stats are poor, so plan to replace him with a real DPS unit once your economy is stable. He sits in C Tier for overall ranking but is effectively mandatory for early-game economy.
