CHAIN Survival Guide – Beat the Chainsaw Slasher & Farm Points
Last checked: August 13, 2026
This CHAIN survival guide covers the mechanics that keep you alive against the chainsaw lumberjack: how to flee in a straight line, dodge his charge to refill stamina, break his line of sight, hide, and farm the most points — worth more by surviving the 8-minute night than by rushing generators. Note that, as of August 13, 2026, CHAIN is mid-recode and temporarily rated 16+.

Know what you're up against (and the 16+ recode)
CHAIN is a trio-op story-survival indie horror game by Yurixzaaa of SUPPRESSION STUDIOS (a verified Roblox group). The premise is simple and nasty: you and up to a small team try to survive the night while a masked "lumberjack" named CHAIN hunts you with a chainsaw. He charges the instant he sees you and is relentless — but, crucially, he is also slow-moving. That single detail shapes every decision here: you're not out-gunning him, you're out-lasting him.
An honest heads-up before you jump in: as of August 13, 2026, CHAIN is in the middle of a recode and is temporarily rated 16+. It is still very much live — at our check on August 13, 2026 the Roblox API showed roughly 1,474 concurrent players, 50,273,808 lifetime visits, 434,574 favorites and about 86.6% approval (100,941 likes against 15,586 dislikes) on a server cap of 50. The game was created on July 12, 2022 and last updated August 11, 2026. Because the recode is ongoing, treat the mechanics below as the current state; the developer may adjust them as the rebuild continues.
One more note so you don't waste time hunting for shortcuts: CHAIN has no verified code-redemption system as of August 13, 2026. There's no redeem box, so any "CHAIN codes" list you see elsewhere is not real — see our CHAIN codes page for the full evidence. Everything you earn comes from playing well, which is exactly what the rest of this guide is about.
Survive the night — and know what every action pays
The single most important habit in CHAIN is counter-intuitive for anyone coming from other horror games: surviving the whole night is worth more than any single task. Each night runs about 8 minutes; when the sun rises CHAIN is dragged to hell, giving you roughly 1–3 minutes of prep before the next one. Reaching sunrise is the biggest safe payout there is — the only thing that can out-earn it is raw damage dealt to CHAIN, which is priced point-for-point with the damage you land. That's why your default priority is your own survival, not the objective.
According to the community wiki's points breakdown, here is what the main actions actually pay in the Survival mode (as of our August 13, 2026 check — values can shift during the recode):
| Action | Points |
|---|---|
| Survive the full night | The largest single payout (except total damage dealt) |
| Deal damage to CHAIN | 1 point per point of damage landed |
| Fix the power station during the night | +70 at dusk |
| Survive a Blood Moon | +80 |
| Survive a Thunderstorm | +30 |
| Sell scraps to the Shopkeeper | ~1 point per 3.57 scraps |
Two takeaways. First, bank the weather bonuses: a Blood Moon (+80) and a Thunderstorm (+30) pay you just for outlasting them, so don't take reckless risks during an event — simply surviving it pays. Second, punch back when it's free: because damage is paid point-for-point, chip in hits with a stun grenade or machete when CHAIN is already stunned, and treat scrap-hunting (a slow ~3.57 scraps per point) as something you do only in the daytime lull, never mid-chase.
Sprint in a straight line to lose CHAIN
When CHAIN spots you, he charges — so you need to create distance fast. Your escape button is stamina: hold W + Shift to flee. The mistake that gets new players killed is treating him like a ranged threat and strafing side to side. Do not strafe. You are fleeing a chainsaw, not dodging a gun, so weaving only slows you down and keeps you in his sightline. Run in a straight line to put solid distance between you and him and break his view.
Dodge his charge to refill stamina (press Q)
The mechanic most new players never learn is the dodge, and it's the single biggest survival upgrade in CHAIN. When CHAIN is far enough away he winds up a charge attack — a sprint toward you with a loud scream and heavy footsteps, ending in a swing. Instead of only running, you can beat it: press Q on keyboard (Y on controller) to open a 1.5-second dodge window on a 5-second cooldown. Anything that hits you during that window is dodged, and the attacker is briefly stunned.
The payoff is stamina. Cleanly dodging CHAIN's charge/dash refills your stamina in full and stuns him — turning his scariest move into your best escape tool. There's even a desperation play the wiki documents: if you're out of stamina, you can deliberately take hits until you're below 35 HP (about three hits while walking away, with no armor), then dodge to claw back roughly 70% of your stamina. It's risky, but it can save a run when you'd otherwise be cornered.
- Save Q for the charge. The full-stamina refund only comes from dodging his dash — don't waste the 1.5s window on random swings when a plain dodge would do.
- Respect the 5-second cooldown. After a dodge you're exposed until it resets, so pair the dodge with an immediate break of line of sight rather than standing to dodge again.
- Use the stun to reposition or hit back. The brief stun after a dodge is your window to sprint straight to cover — or land free damage-for-points if you're holding a machete.
- Low-HP dodge as a last resort only. Taking hits to below 35 HP for a ~70% stamina refund works, but one burst attack can end you, so only gamble it when you're already out of options.
Break line of sight and hide to reset the hunt
Sprinting buys you seconds; hiding is what actually ends the chase. CHAIN's hunt is driven by line of sight — when he loses sight of you, he wanders off. That is the whole game loop in a nutshell: get out of view, get into cover, and let him drift away. Use closets and visual concealment to disappear, and because he's slow, your sprint is really just the bridge between one hiding spot and the next.
- Break line of sight, then conceal. Round a corner or put a wall between you and CHAIN so he loses eyes on you, then duck into a closet — don't tuck in while he's still watching.
- Wait for him to wander, and map your cover. CHAIN drifts off when he can't see you, so give it a beat; plan closets ahead so every straight sprint ends somewhere you can vanish.
Repair the power station only when it's safe
The power station is your main repair objective, and it pays a concrete bonus: fix it during the night and you bank an extra 70 points when dusk rises. But it's also bait — repairing locks you to a fixed spot for its duration and exposes you to danger. Combine that with the fact that surviving the night pays more than any single repair, and the rule writes itself: only work the power station when it's both safe and nearby.
- Repair at night, and scout first. The +70 bonus only lands if the fix happens during nighttime, so confirm CHAIN isn't near the power station and time your safe repair windows for the dark.
- Bail the instant he appears. The 70 points are never worth your life; abandon the repair, sprint straight, and hide the moment he's on your trail — the night's survival payout dwarfs it anyway.
Spend points, pick your mode, read the fear cues
Your points aren't just a score — spend them at the shop. The most useful early purchases are the two location unlocks in the shop's fourth (upgrades) tab: the Workshop for 150 points and the Warehouse for 500 points (the third upgrade raises the power station's maximum capacity). The Warehouse holds three crates that can drop an energy drink, bear trap, stun grenade, flare, or — rarely — a machete, which are exactly the tools that let you stun CHAIN and farm damage-for-points. The Workshop's workbench lets you craft from The Merchant's blueprints and deconstruct scrap into materials. Unlock the cheap Workshop first, then save toward the Warehouse for the gear.
CHAIN also offers a few ways to play. There are Survival and Simple Survival modes, plus story content across chapters — Chapter 1 and Chapter Legacy. As a beginner, use the survival modes to drill the core loop from this guide (sprint straight, dodge the charge, break line of sight, hide, repair only when safe) before diving deep into the story chapters, so the fundamentals are muscle memory when the pressure ramps up.
Finally, use your ears. CHAIN leans on audio and fear cues to herd players — the loud scream and heavy footsteps of a charge are your warning to dodge or break line of sight, not a reason to bolt blindly into a dead-end. Playing with friends? Spread across different hiding spots so a single sightline can't catch everyone, and never all pile into the same closet. Calm decision-making is the difference between farming a full night of points and getting caught on the first charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
CHAIN charges the moment he sees you, but he's slow-moving and relentless rather than fast. Hold W + Shift and run in a straight line to break his line of sight — don't strafe or zig-zag, because you're fleeing a chainsaw, not a gun. You can also dodge his charge with Q (Y on controller): a clean dodge of his dash refills your stamina in full and briefly stuns him. Once he loses sight of you he wanders off, so treat the sprint as a way to reach the next closet or piece of cover. This dodge-and-hide loop is the core of survival as of August 13, 2026, during the ongoing recode.
No. CHAIN has no verified code-redemption system as of August 13, 2026 — there's no redeem box and no currency to top up with a code, so any list claiming active CHAIN codes should be treated as fabricated. Progression comes from earning points by surviving nights and safely repairing generators, not from codes. Our CHAIN codes page lays out the full evidence.
As of August 13, 2026, CHAIN is temporarily rated 16+ because it's in the middle of a recode. The game is still live — roughly 1,474 concurrent players, 50,273,808 lifetime visits and about 86.6% approval at our check on August 13, 2026 — but developer Yurixzaaa of SUPPRESSION STUDIOS is rebuilding it, so mechanics and the rating may shift as that work continues. Treat everything here as the current state during the recode.
