Practical Basketball has roughly 11 named dribble moves mapped across five keys — C, Z, X, V and G. These are how a Guard creates the open green window from the section above. You don't need all eleven on day one, but you do need two or three you can throw on reaction:

Start with the Crossover and the Step Back: the first gets you downhill for a layup, the second buys the space you need for a clean jumper. Finish at the rim: layups & dunks
Once your handle beats the defender, you have three ways to finish. Each is a different input, and picking the right one for the situation is what separates a bucket from a blocked shot:

Grind the 43 badges & unlock takeovers
Long-term progression runs on badges. There are about 43 badges across six categories — Finishing, Shooting, Playmaking, Defense, Post-Scoring and Physical — and each badge has five tiers: Bronze → Silver → Gold → Diamond → Amethyst. Crucially, tiers are stat thresholds, not grind tasks: you unlock a tier by pushing the relevant attribute high enough on your build.

Because badges follow your attributes, the smart beginner move is to specialize: pick a category that matches your position and pour points into it rather than spreading thin. A Guard chasing Limitless Shooter and Dimer will feel far stronger than one with middling stats everywhere.
On top of badges, ST3 adds 9 takeovers — temporary in-game power spikes — including Diesel, Highlight Reel, Smooth Operator, Knockdown, Downhill and Board Hunter. A takeover like Knockdown supercharges your shooting for a stretch, so building into a badge line and its matching takeover compounds your strengths.
