Elementalism Tier List (2026) — Best Elements Ranked

Published May 2, 2026 · 8 min read

Choosing the right element in Elementalism is the most important decision you'll make on Roblox's Avatar-inspired bending game. Pick wrong and you're stuck grinding a weaker build for hundreds of hours. This tier list ranks all 4 elements and their subclasses based on PvE clearing speed, PvP dominance, and overall progression efficiency as of May 2026.

We've tested every subclass at max Mastery across Nation Wars, 1v1 duels, and boss encounters. Whether you're picking your first element or debating a new save file, this ranking reflects the current meta after the latest balance patches.

Quick note: This tier list assumes you'll invest enough time to unlock subclasses. Without subclass investment, every element lands in C tier. The real power differences show up after 30 Mastery.

S Tier — Best Elements in Elementalism

These two elements sit at the top because their subclass ceilings are unmatched. If you want to dominate both PvE content and competitive PvP, you can't go wrong with either pick.

Water (Bloodbending Subclass)

Water is the most versatile element in Elementalism and has held the top spot since late 2025. Its three subclass paths — Plants, Healing, and Blood — cover every role you could need. But the real reason Water sits in S tier is Bloodbending.

Bloodbending requires 100 Mastery and 7,500 Aureus to unlock, making it the hardest subclass to access in the entire game. The payoff is worth every hour of grinding. You gain direct control over opponents, forcing enemies to attack their own allies in PvE and completely locking down players in PvP duels. There's no counterplay once you're caught in a Bloodbending hold besides having a teammate break you free.

The lower subclasses aren't weak either. Plants provides solid area denial at 30 Mastery for just 2,500 Aureus. Healing keeps your team alive during Nation Wars. Water benders who invest fully become the most feared players on any server.

Best for: PvP dominance, team support, late-game scaling

Fire (Lightning Subclass)

Fire delivers the highest raw damage output of any element. Its two subclass paths — Lightning and Combustion — both focus on destruction, but Lightning edges out as the superior choice for competitive play.

Lightning chain attacks bounce between multiple targets, clearing PvE encounters faster than any other ability in the game. The burst damage on a single target is equally impressive, with moderate cooldowns that let you maintain pressure. At 100 Mastery, Lightning sub-skills turn you into a walking storm that melts health bars in seconds.

Combustion offers pure explosive power but lacks the multi-target efficiency of Lightning. It's still A-tier on its own, and some players prefer its straightforward playstyle. Fire's only weakness is survivability — you're trading defense for offense, which makes the Glassblade trait a popular but risky pairing.

Best for: Burst damage, PvE speed clearing, aggressive PvP

A Tier — Excellent Elements

A-tier elements are strong, competitive picks that excel in specific areas. They won't dominate every situation like S tier, but they're never a bad choice.

Earth

Earth is the tankiest element in Elementalism. If you prefer a defensive playstyle where you outlast opponents rather than burst them down, Earth is your pick. The Metal subclass transforms you into an immovable wall in PvP, absorbing hits that would delete other elements.

Earth also offers access to the Sand subclass, which provides crowd control and area denial. Sand blinds opponents and creates zones they can't safely enter. In Nation Wars, Earth benders anchor defensive positions better than anyone else on the field.

The reason Earth sits in A rather than S tier is its damage ceiling. You won't kill players quickly, and in high-level PvP against a Bloodbender, your tankiness only delays the inevitable. Against everything else though, Earth performs consistently well.

Best for: PvP durability, defensive playstyle, Nation Wars defense

Air

Air has the smoothest learning curve and the best mobility of any element. New players who pick Air will progress faster in the early game because movement speed translates directly into quest completion efficiency. You'll reach meditation spots at the Oasis and Spiritual World faster than anyone else.

Air's weakness shows up at high-level PvP. The element lacks a subclass with the raw stopping power of Bloodbending or Lightning. You can outmaneuver opponents all day, but finishing kills requires more mechanical skill than other elements demand. Experienced Air players are terrifying, but the average Air user falls off in competitive scenarios.

Best for: Beginners, fast progression, mobility-focused gameplay

B Tier — Subclasses Ranked

Since Elementalism only has 4 base elements, the real depth comes from subclass selection. Here's how every subclass stacks up against each other in May 2026.

SubclassTierElementStrength
BloodbendingS+WaterDirect opponent control
LightningSFireChain burst damage
CombustionAFirePure AoE destruction
MetalAEarthMaximum survivability
HealingB+WaterTeam sustain
SandBEarthCrowd control and zoning
PlantsBWaterArea denial

Bloodbending stands alone at S+ because no other subclass offers the same level of control. Lightning earns its S rating through sheer damage output and multi-target efficiency. The gap between S and A tier is smaller — Combustion and Metal are both excellent and viable in every content type.

B-tier subclasses aren't bad picks. Healing is essential for organized team play in Nation Wars. Sand provides utility that no other subclass replicates. Plants is the weakest overall but still outperforms having no subclass at all.

C Tier — Weakest Builds

Any element without subclass investment belongs in C tier. If you haven't reached at least 30 Mastery to unlock your first subclass for 2,500 Aureus, you're working with a fraction of your element's potential.

Pure base elements lack the specialized abilities that define high-level play. A base Water user has no Bloodbending. A base Fire user has no Lightning chains. You're essentially fighting with training wheels still attached.

The exception is Air at very early levels, where its inherent mobility still provides value. Every other element without subclass access feels incomplete. If you're stuck below 30 Mastery, prioritize reaching that threshold above everything else.

Progression tip: Meditation at the Oasis or Spiritual World is the fastest Mastery gain method. Combine it with daily quests and you'll hit 30 Mastery within your first week of consistent play.

How We Ranked These Elements

Our tier rankings weigh four factors equally:

PvE damage output — How quickly can you clear mobs, complete quests, and defeat bosses. Lightning and Combustion excel here. Water's Bloodbending turns tough enemies against each other, effectively doubling your damage in group encounters.

PvP viability — Performance in 1v1 duels and Nation Wars. Bloodbending dominates 1v1s. Lightning punishes grouped opponents. Metal benders survive longer than anyone else in chaotic team fights.

Subclass power ceiling — How strong the element becomes at 100 Mastery with full sub-skill investment. Water and Fire scale harder than Earth and Air at the highest levels of play.

Ease of progression — How quickly you reach meaningful power spikes. Air wins early, but Water and Fire catch up once they hit their subclass thresholds.

Important: Switching to the Ninja class removes your element entirely. Ninja is technically the best raw PvP class, but you lose access to all elemental abilities and subclasses. The Elementalist class (default) is stronger long-term because of subclass scaling. The Fighter class offers a middle ground but doesn't match either at their peak.

For Mastery progression, focus on meditation at the Oasis or Spiritual World — these locations give the highest Mastery XP per hour. Supplement with combat grinding and daily quests. Most players hit 30 Mastery in about a week and 100 Mastery in 3-4 weeks of regular play.

Nation Wars and the ruling mechanics add another layer to consider. Earth benders make the best defenders for holding territory, while Water and Fire excel at pushing objectives. Air's mobility lets you rotate between fights faster than any other element, which has strategic value even if the raw combat power is lower.

You can also explore active Elementalism codes for free Aureus to speed up your subclass unlocks. Every bit of currency saved on subclass training is currency you can spend elsewhere.

FAQ

What is the best element in Elementalism?

Water is the best element in Elementalism as of May 2026. Its Bloodbending subclass at 100 Mastery gives you direct control over opponents, making it the strongest pick for both PvE and PvP. Fire with Lightning is a close second if you prefer raw damage over control.

How do you unlock subclasses in Elementalism?

You unlock subclasses by reaching 30 Mastery in your element and paying 2,500 Aureus to the appropriate trainer. Advanced sub-skills require 100 Mastery and 7,500 Aureus. Bloodbending is the exception — it specifically requires 100 Mastery to unlock rather than the standard 30.

Is Ninja better than Elementalist class?

Ninja has the edge in raw PvP combat with superior melee abilities and speed. However, you lose your element entirely when switching to Ninja. Elementalist is stronger long-term because subclass abilities like Bloodbending and Lightning outscale Ninja at high Mastery levels. Choose Ninja only if you don't care about elemental abilities.

What is the fastest way to level Mastery in Elementalism?

Meditation at the Oasis or Spiritual World is the most efficient Mastery gain method in the game. Combine meditation sessions with daily quests and combat grinding for the fastest progression. Most players reach 30 Mastery within a week and 100 Mastery in 3-4 weeks of consistent play.

Can you change your element in Elementalism?

You cannot change your base element once selected. Your choice is permanent for that save file, which is why picking the right element matters so much. If you want to try a different element, you'll need to start a new save file from scratch.

What does the Glassblade trait do in Elementalism?

Glassblade is a trait that significantly increases your damage output at the cost of reduced defense. It pairs well with Fire and Lightning builds that focus on burst damage — the idea is to eliminate opponents before they can hit you back. Avoid Glassblade on Earth builds where survivability is the whole point.
