MMV vs Murder Mystery 2 (2026) – What's the Difference?

The honest answer to "what's the difference between MM2 and MMV" is that only one of them can still be launched. Every Roblox experience that has ever carried the MMV name is dead — we re-tested all six of them again on September 6, 2026, and not one of them opens. Murder Mystery 2 is very much alive and has just crossed 30 billion lifetime visits: 30.18 billion, a 90.8% like rating, and a seven-day concurrent median of 276,641 players over the week to September 6, 2026. Everything below treats MMV in the past tense, because that is the only accurate way to write about it.

Is MMV Gone? What We Verified Today

We ran our standard liveness test against MMV's registered place ID 108330297159548. A live experience redirects to its own slug — Murder Mystery 2 returns 301 → /Murder-Mystery-2. A place ID that never existed returns 302 → /request-error?code=404. MMV returns 302 → /Title-Unavailable, the signature of an experience that did exist and is no longer served. Roblox's games API agrees, reporting universe 7487942411 as isContentRestricted: true with a blanked name, creator and stat block.

One endpoint still answers, and it is the useful one. The uploader's creator-games listing continues to return MMV's full record: the universe was created on April 4, 2025 at 21:27 UTC, last updated thirteen minutes later at 21:40 UTC, and never touched again, finishing on 9,230,655 place visits and 296,559 favourites (both still readable on August 26, 2026). The uploader is an account called Z6GSC, registered on April 4, 2025 at 21:27:47 UTC — less than a second before the experience it published. Roblox's votes endpoint now returns "Universe not found" for that universe, so MMV's 85.0% approval is a historical figure we can no longer re-check.

There is no live MMV under any other place ID. We queried Roblox's own search API for both "MMV" and "Murder Mystery V" on August 26, 2026. Each returned 40 experiences; the closest relevant hit in both was Murder Mystery 2 itself, and neither list contained anything actually named MMV.

On timing, we will only say what we can date. The Internet Archive's last successful capture of MMV's Roblox page is June 3, 2026, when the page still loaded normally, and there is no successful capture after it. So the takedown happened some time after June 3, 2026. We have no dated first-hand announcement pinning it down further, and we are not going to invent one.

MMV vs Murder Mystery 2: Quick Comparison

Every Murder Mystery 2 figure above came live from Roblox's game, votes, favourites and game-pass endpoints on August 26, 2026. The MMV figures come from the endpoints that still expose that universe; where one has stopped answering, we say so instead of reusing an old number.

The Copy Is Still Visible in Roblox's Own API

Murder Mystery 2's loop, straight from Nikilis's store description, is the three-role social-deduction structure the genre is built on: most players spawn as Innocents who run and hide, one becomes the Sheriff — the only player with a weapon that can stop the killer — and one becomes the Murderer, whose job is to eliminate everyone without being shot. Roles are reassigned every round, in 12-player lobbies.

Here is the detail that settles the comparison, and you can still check it yourself. The community group "Murder Mystery V // MMV" (group 35357761, 10,333 members on August 26, 2026) is still up, and Roblox's group-games endpoint still returns the stored records for three MMV universes even though the places themselves are dead. Two of those three records still carry Murder Mystery 2's description, word for word (the third has been blanked to "[ Content Deleted ]") — the same Innocent/Sheriff/Murderer block, the same "Collect and trade hundreds of knives!", and Nikilis's own sign-off, "Check out my profile for quick links to my pages!" Pull MM2's live description from the games API and diff the two: only the line-break characters differ. A game that ships its rival's marketing copy unedited is not offering a different take on the formula; it is presenting itself as the formula.

The newest of those three records adds one line that MM2's description does not have: a link to roblox.com/communities/33223592. Check who owns it before you follow it. That community is called "Nik's Murder Community", it has 8,391 members, and it is owned by an account named NiksCommunityHolder2. Nikilis — user 1848960, the verified account that actually publishes MM2 — is the creator of a different group: group 1030692, "Murder Mystery", with 4,736,148 members. If an MMV page ever forwarded you to the 33223592 community, that was not the official MM2 community.

Roblox blanks a restricted universe's mechanics completely, so we will not tell you how MMV's rounds felt, how big its lobbies were, or how it awarded XP. Earlier versions of this page did; those details were unverifiable and are gone.

"MMV" Is Not One Game — It's a Chain of Six Re-Uploads

The name has been attached to at least six separate Roblox experiences, which matters if you are trying to work out which MMV you actually played. We re-tested every one on September 6, 2026; none of them opens:

• "[🥚] Murder Mystery V" (place 12928877533), the March 28, 2023 original, which reached roughly 93.7 million visits and an 81.5% rating before it went dark. It still holds 82,115 favourites, and its URL now returns the Title-Unavailable redirect.
• "[🌈] MMV" (place 126971839170576), created February 6, 2025 by the MMV group, 87,442 visits — Title-Unavailable.
• "MMV" (place 108330297159548), published April 4, 2025 by Z6GSC, 9,230,655 visits — the upload this page is registered to, and Title-Unavailable.
• Place 128444369359104, published April 6, 2025 by the MMV group, 885,830 visits. This one still resolves, but its owner has renamed both the experience and its description to the literal string "[ Content Deleted ]" and it sits at zero players.
• "MMV" (place 140323073554832), created May 2, 2025 by the MMV group, 52,372 visits — Title-Unavailable. This is the record carrying the forwarding link discussed above.
• "💗 MMV ༷" (place 112665328699641), published August 19, 2025 by the account mmvmods, 5,380,063 visits. Also blanked to "[ Content Deleted ]", also at zero players.

If you remember MMV as far bigger than the 9.2 million visits on the place ID most sites cite, you are remembering the 2023 original. Different place IDs, different stats — conflating them is how the inflated visit counts elsewhere got made.

Economy, Trading & Monetization

Murder Mystery 2's collecting economy is real and it is why most of its players are there. Coins earned in rounds buy crates, crates drop weapon skins across a rarity ladder up to Godly, and those skins carry community trade value. On the paid side, MM2 has 72 published game passes, and only three are on sale as of August 26, 2026: BUNDLE: Beach at 3,399 Robux (published July 23, 2026; an exclusive Godly knife, effect and gun), Elite at 499 Robux (1.5× XP rates, an Elite name tag, an Elite-exclusive knife, an Elite pet and effect, and a coin-bag limit raised to 50) and Radio at 475 Robux (play music in-round). The other 69 are retired limited-time bundles from past seasonal events — still listed, but flagged not-for-sale.

MMV, by contrast, had no game passes and no badges at all. Both endpoints return empty lists for its universe. As a control we ran the identical pass query against MM2 and got all 72 back, so the empty result is real and not an API failure.

Player Counts: Why One Number Won't Do

Be careful with any single MM2 concurrency figure you see quoted, including ours. Our radar samples the game every six hours, and the seven days to August 26, 2026 at 07:30 UTC recorded a low of 204,141 and a high of 913,238, with a median near 499,000. Quoting that median as "MM2's player count" would have been misleading, because that week contained a regime change rather than noise. The week to September 6, 2026 is clean of it, and that is the window to quote: a median of 276,641 across 27 samples, in a range of 120,938 to 432,285.

The change is dated. MM2's Summer Event 2026 expired at 21:00 UTC on August 23, 2026, and our samples bracket it: 908,888 players at 19:30 UTC on August 23, then 329,999 at 01:30 UTC on August 24. Across the ten samples in the fortnight after, MM2 ran between 204,141 and 398,682 concurrent players, median 308,025. Two weeks on, the settled band is a little lower and a little wider: a median of 276,641 across the seven days to September 6, 2026, in a range of 120,938 to 432,285 — so it has touched 400,000 again, but only at a weekend peak. That post-event band is the number to use today; the higher figures still circulating describe the event, not the game. For context, Rolimon's records MM2's all-time concurrent peak at 1,352,075, set in mid-August 2026, and a past-24-hours peak of 404,711 when we checked on August 26, 2026. MMV never came close to those numbers even at its largest, and it no longer has a game to gather in: every place in the chain reports zero players.

Which Should YOU Play?

Because no MMV can be launched, the practical answer for everyone is Murder Mystery 2 — but which part of it you'll want depends on why you were looking for MMV.

It uses bigger 30-player lobbies and a duel-flavoured spin on the same killer-versus-sheriff premise, so it is a different feel rather than a clone.
