Anime Expeditions Tier List (August 2026) — Best Units Ranked
This ranks 21 Anime Expeditions units on the wiki's own max-upgrade numbers — final damage divided by attack cycle, times the placement limit — checked against the wiki team's role lists. Prodigy (Rage) tops it. One warning: the unit called Carrot was renamed in August, and most lists rank the wrong one.
S Tier
Each is in the wiki team's Top 5 or clears 900 team DPS at max upgrade. Four of the six are Secret, and three sit behind 0.01% banner rates.
Prodigy (Rage)
Secret, Light and Physical, 3 placements. Its top upgrade is 4,112.5 damage on an 8.0-second cycle — 514 DPS each, 1,542 across the team, the highest in the unit data on August 28, 2026. Passives are Hidden Potential and Rage Unleashed. The base Prodigy costs no summons: it's the reward for the West City quest The Scholar's Trial.
Crow (Black Fire)
Secret, Flame and Magical, 3 placements, 316 DPS each and 947 team DPS. The wiki team ranks base Crow first in both its Top 5 and its DPS list, on an Illusion mechanic that scales with how tightly enemies are bunched. Limited, Villain Banner, 0.01% with a 10,000-summon pity.
Dark Mage (Sovereign)
Mythic, Hydro and Magical, but only 2 placements, so 337 DPS each caps at 675 team DPS. It ranks second in the Top 5 on coverage, not output — its Lightning form hits a far wider slice of the map than the cone and circle shapes most units use. Limited, Villain Banner, 0.25%, 400-summon pity.
8th Sword (Berserk)
Secret, Neutral and Physical, 2 placements, 452 DPS each for 903 team DPS. Its 3,794 max damage lands through Way of the Sword, a five-tick full-AoE skill the base form lacks. You farm it rather than roll it: Spirit City Raid Act 3 at 1%, pity at 35 clears.
Shadow (Divine)
Secret, Dark and Magical, 2 placements, 249 DPS each for 498 team DPS — low for this tier. It's here as the only unit in all four wiki role lists. Its damage builds from takedowns, so it's poor in short modes like Tower and excellent in long ones. Standard Banner, 0.01%.
Bioinsect (Final Form)
Mythic, Terra and Magical, 3 placements. Fifth in the Top 5 and first in the Utility list, built on evolving through forms by beating summoned bosses. We quote no DPS figure: its upgrade table has one level filled in and a zero damage value. Both outside lists still put it top tier.
A Tier
These clear 950 team DPS or own a role outright, but each has a catch — a two-placement cap, a closed banner, or a slow ramp. Four are Standard Banner Mythics at 0.25%.
Cursed Immortal (Black Sun)
Mythic, Dark and Magical, 3 placements. Its 999 damage looks modest until the cycle: 2.05 seconds, easily the fastest at the top, for 487 DPS each and 1,462 team DPS, second-highest in the game. Our two outside sources disagree sharply, one placing it top tier and the other three tiers lower. Limited, Update 0.5.
Puppet (Telekinetic)
Mythic, Light and Psychic. Its 5,093 max damage is the largest damage value in the dataset, and 566 DPS per placement beats anything with a normal attack. The 2-placement cap holds it to 1,132 team DPS. Puppet Mark auto-targets dangerous enemies. Standard or Mini Banner, 0.25%, 400-summon pity.
String Demon (Awakened)
Mythic, Neutral and Magical, 3 placements, 396 DPS each and 1,190 team DPS — third-highest in the game. Like Puppet it covers three of the four role lists, pairing Cocoon stuns with a buff to the nearest ally. The easiest of this group to actually build, at 0.25%.
Lady Giant (Envy)
Mythic, Terra and Physical, and the only Mythic-or-rarer unit with a 4-placement limit. Individually slow — 2,860 damage on a 10.6-second cycle is 270 DPS — but four stack to 1,079 team DPS. A cost-efficient wall, not a burst carry.
Elf Mage (Unleashed)
Mythic, Storm and Magical, 3 placements, 326 DPS each for 978 team DPS. Its real distinction is placement: the only Hybrid unit in the game, taking ground or hill slots where base Elf Mage is hill-only. Evolving also lifts range from 21 to 25.
Toy Maker
Exclusive, Dark and Psychic, and the strangest entry here. A 1-placement limit, yet 634 DPS from that single slot — the highest per-placement figure in the game. Its Build-a-toy passive summons Toys that spread to every path. It went to Release Tournament participants and is flagged Limited.
B Tier
Strong units that need a specific build, map or trait. Three shipped with Update 1.0 on August 10, 2026, so these are the least settled placements here.
Razorjaw (Hunter)
Mythic, Neutral and Physical, 3 placements, 319 DPS each for 957 team DPS — an S-tier number held back by a build requirement. Its damage climbs with every consecutive strike, and both outside lists flag the same caveat: without the Unbound trait it falls short as a carry. Limited, Villain Banner, 0.25%.
Carrot (Unleashed)
Mythic, Gale and Physical, 3 placements, 277 DPS each and 830 team DPS. It stacks Fighting Spirit through crits, then transforms, and can relocate to another unit's position. Read the name carefully: it evolves from the Mythic Carrot released August 10, 2026, not the Rare filler that used to hold the name.
Vegetable (Prince)
Mythic, Light and Magical, 2 placements, 351 DPS each for 703 team DPS. It gains damage and crit from nearby units attacking, so it's useless as a solo pick. The wiki ranks it fourth for DPS while noting its small AoE limits how much of that damage connects. Update 1.0.
Cubert
Exclusive, Hydro and Magical, 3 placements, 257 DPS each for 771 team DPS. Its passives are Cubes, Cube Link and Cube Overload: it links to another unit, builds a meter from that unit's attacks, then detonates cubes to stun. It drops from Floor 50 of Tower Season 1.
Crimson (Brother)
Exclusive, Dark and Magical, 2 placements, 389 DPS each for 778 team DPS at 27 range. Crimson Marks detonate on a delay and leave pools that keep damaging whatever walks through — strong against packed waves, weak against single bosses. Limited, so you either have it or you don't.
C Tier
Not filler — each does one job better than anything above it. Judge them by whether you need that job, not by the damage column.
Salmon Sorcerer (Grade 1)
Mythic, Gale and Magical, 3 placements, only 168 DPS each and 505 team DPS. It still ranks first in the wiki's Crowd-Control list, because its Plummet passive slows and staggers at 30 range, the second-longest reach in the game.
Flame Emperor (Reincarnate)
Mythic, Flame and Magical, the extremes unit: the highest placement limit at 5 and the longest range at 32. Weak alone at 82 DPS, but five reach 411 team DPS while covering more map than anything else. Its Burn spreads between nearby enemies.
Ramen Guy
Legendary, one of the very few Farm-element units, and it deals no damage. Its Donburi passive raises Yen from kills by 50%, under two conditions most guides skip: only while it is placed, and only for the player who placed it. A 10% summon rate with a 50-summon pity.
Little Carrot
Rare, Gale and Physical, 4 placements, 50 max damage for 74 team DPS. At a 74.68% summon rate it's the most common pull in the game. It's listed for one reason: this is the unit that used to be called Carrot, so any list putting "Carrot" bottom-tier is describing this.

How We Ranked These Units
Two inputs, weighted against each other. The first is the game wiki's Module:UnitData dataset, last edited August 24, 2026, which stores every unit's per-level damage, attack cycle and range. We took each unit's final upgrade level, divided damage by the attack cycle for single-placement DPS, then multiplied by the placement limit. The second is the wiki team's own tier list — admin-protected, curated by @ansphoria — which sorts units into Top 5, DPS, Utility and Crowd-Control rather than letters.
Those two disagree often, and that's the point. Toy Maker has the best per-slot damage in the game and a 1-placement cap. Shadow (Divine) has a mediocre 498 team DPS and sits in all four role lists. Neither input alone gets it right.
We cross-checked every name and rarity against two outside tier lists published August 11, 2026, and found errors in both. One lists Vegetable (Rage), Soul Reaper (Released) and 8th Sword (Berserker); the correct names are Vegetable (Prince), Reaper (Released) and 8th Sword (Berserk), and "Rage" belongs to a different unit. The other ranks Carrot bottom-tier while ranking Carrot (Unleashed) near the top — the wiki's move log shows the Rare unit was renamed to Little Carrot on August 13, 2026.
Three things we left out. Creed appears on a wiki mirror as a Legendary costing 650 Yen but has no page on the live wiki, so we can't confirm it exists in the current build. Cube sits in the unit data with 1 damage and no article — a stub. And that Fandom mirror is a July 18, 2026 snapshot covering 47 units against the live wiki's 65, which is why lists built from it miss every Update 1.0 unit here. Skins like Elf Mage (Maid) are cosmetics, not units.

Frequently Asked Questions
Prodigy (Rage). Its max-upgrade line in the wiki's unit data is 4,112.5 damage on an 8.0-second cycle across 3 placements — about 1,542 team DPS, the highest in the dataset on August 28, 2026. It also sits in the wiki team's Top 5, and unlike the rest of that group it needs no summons: base Prodigy is the reward for the West City quest The Scholar's Trial. Puppet (Telekinetic) wins on per-placement damage at about 566 DPS, but caps at two placements.
It depends which Carrot, and this is the most common error in current Anime Expeditions tier lists. On August 13, 2026 the wiki renamed the old Rare unit to Little Carrot, and a new Mythic Carrot released August 10, 2026 for Update 1.0 took the name. Little Carrot is the 74.68% summon filler with 50 max damage. Carrot is a Mythic that evolves into Carrot (Unleashed) at roughly 830 team DPS. Lists still ranking Carrot at the bottom are describing Little Carrot.
You complete the West City quest The Scholar's Trial, whose steps include evolving one unit and clearing East Town. That makes Prodigy the only top-tier unit that costs no summons. The rest are gated: Crow at a 0.01% Villain Banner rate with a 10,000-summon pity, Shadow at 0.01% on the Standard Banner with the same pity, and 8th Sword at a 1% drop from Spirit City Raid Act 3 with a 35-clear pity. Prodigy then evolves into Prodigy (Rage).
