Dig & Clean Beginner's Guide – Best Shovels, Rare Finds & Fast Cash
This Dig & Clean beginner's guide shows you the exact order to upgrade your shovel, spray bottle and metal detector, how rarity beams and condition decide what a find is worth, and the fastest way to turn buried junk into a steady stream of Cash — without wasting money on the wrong upgrade.

How Dig & Clean works: the dig-clean-display loop
Dig & Clean 🧼 is a discovery simulator where you unearth filthy buried objects, scrub them clean to reveal what they actually are, and show off your best finds in your own museum. It launched July 9, 2026 and has already exploded to 6,414,727 visits and 132,156 favorites, with 31,957 players in-game at our check on August 6, 2026 — the kind of numbers that put a brand-new game in Roblox's front ranks.
The whole game is one short loop that repeats forever: find a dig spot → dig the buried item out → carry it to a cleaning station → spray it clean to reveal its identity, rarity and condition → place your best pieces in the museum or sell the rest for Cash → spend that Cash on better tools. Every upgrade exists to push that loop faster and surface rarer, more valuable objects. Here is the exact sequence to run as a new player:
- Equip your starter Wooden shovel and walk up to a highlighted dig spot on the beach.
- Dig the buried object out — weak items pop up fast, but strong ones need a better shovel (more on that below).
- Carry the dirty find to a cleaning station and hold your spray bottle over it, rotating large items so you scrub every side.
- Read the reveal: the game names the item and shows its 1-in-X rarity and its condition.
- Place rare, high-condition finds on a museum podium; sell your duplicate commons for Cash and reinvest in tools.

Upgrade your shovel to pry loose rarer finds
Your shovel is the single most important early upgrade, because it does two jobs at once: it decides how quickly an item comes out of the ground, and — crucially — whether you can dig a strong item at all. Try to dig a high-rarity object with the Wooden starter and it simply will not move; the game tells you flat out that you "need a stronger shovel." That gate is what stops new players grabbing the glowing rare beam a few feet away.
The shovel line climbs through named tiers as you earn Cash. The order you'll unlock them is:
| Shovel tier | Role in your run |
|---|---|
| Wooden | Free starter — only handles the weakest common finds |
| Stone | First real upgrade; affordable within your opening minutes |
| Metal | Also grants extra walk speed alongside more dig strength |
| Cobalt | Mid-tier strength for reliably digging blue and purple finds |
| Carbon | High-end tier for the deepest island beaches |
The rule of thumb is simple: if you can see a rare beam you can't dig, your shovel is the bottleneck — buy the next tier before anything else. Rushing a fancy metal detector while stuck on the Wooden shovel just means you'll spot rarities you physically can't collect. Buy the Stone shovel the moment you can afford it, then the Metal shovel (which also bumps your walk speed so you reach dig spots before rival players snipe them).
Buy better spray bottles to clean faster
Once your shovel can pull items out, the spray bottle becomes your next chokepoint. Cleaning isn't automatic — you hold the bottle over the dirty find and scrub, and big items force you to rotate them to reach every dirty face. With the weak starter bottle, awkward shapes like umbrellas, crabs and fossils crawl to 60% and stall, which quietly wastes minutes you could spend digging. The spray line runs through Rubber → Copper → Steel and up, and each tier finishes the scrub noticeably faster.
The trap here is buying a spray upgrade too early. Cleaning speed only matters once you're pulling items faster than you can wash them, so let dirty finds start to pile up before you spend. When they do stack, jump straight to the next bottle — on the home island the top spray bottles run to roughly 140,000 and 190,000 Cash as of August 6, 2026, so treat them as a mid-run goal rather than a day-one buy.
Stack luck with metal detectors
The metal detector is your luck stat. Better detectors raise the chance that rarer, higher-value items spawn for you to dig, so upgrading from Copper to Silver, Gold and Platinum visibly shifts your finds from whites and greens toward blues and purples. In testing, jumping to the Gold detector turned a dry hunt into steady blue spawns, and the Platinum tier had purples "showing up left and right."
Detectors are the third priority, though, not the first. They're pricey — the next tier can jump to around 9,000 Cash as of August 6, 2026 early on — and there's no point buying luck you can't cash in. If your shovel can't dig the rarities and your bottle can't clean them, a better detector just shows you treasure you'll leave in the sand. Get your shovel and spray comfortable first, then pour Cash into detector luck before a big hunt.
Read rarity beams and condition for max value
Two separate numbers set what a find sells for, and understanding both is how you decide what to keep.
Rarity is shown as odds — 1-in-X. Common junk lands around 1-in-100 (a mint flip-flop we found was a 1-in-100 worth about $1,000 Cash), while genuinely rare pieces climb fast: a 1-in-5,000 anchor sold for about $17,000, and the game's base rarest item sits near 1-in-90 million as of August 6, 2026. Rarer spawns announce themselves with a colored light beam rising into the sky — white and green for common, then blue and purple for the good stuff, with special gradient variants that are rarer still. Look at the top of the beam: if it fades into a gradient, that's a scarcer version worth chasing.
Condition is rolled fresh each time you clean an item, from Okay → Good → Great → Mint → Perfect, and it multiplies the value. Because condition stacks on top of rarity, a Perfect-condition common can out-earn a Good-condition rarity — so don't automatically bin your commons before you see the condition. A Perfect crown we cleaned paid out enormously not because it was the rarest item, but because both numbers lined up.
Make fast Cash: museum podiums, selling & islands
Cash comes from three places, and new players usually only use one. Here's how to run all three:
- Museum podiums (passive income): place your rarest, best-condition finds on display podiums and tourist NPCs pay you every time they stop to view them. A single Perfect crown drew payouts around $61,000 per viewing, so a well-stocked museum earns Cash while you keep digging.
- Selling cleaned duplicates: sell your entire inventory of extra commons for upgrade Cash — but always clean items first. Uncleaned junk sells for scraps and doesn't count toward your collection.
- Traveling to new islands: pay the boat NPC to unlock further beaches (the first big jump costs around $1,000,000 Cash as of August 6, 2026). New islands carry a permanent double-luck bonus and brand-new item pools, so higher-value finds appear more often.
Optional in-game boosts — 2x dig power, instant clean, VIP luck and server-luck multipliers up to 8x — speed a grind but aren't required to progress. Dig & Clean has no working promo codes right now (none active as of August 6, 2026); if the devs add a code system we'll list every verified one on our Dig & Clean codes page, so bookmark it rather than trusting fake lists.

Frequently Asked Questions
Upgrade whichever tool is your bottleneck — early on that's almost always the shovel. Move off the Wooden starter to Stone then Metal so you can actually pry rarer finds loose, since strong items won't budge with a weak shovel. Once digging feels fine but dirty finds pile up, buy the next spray bottle (Rubber, Copper, Steel). Save metal detector luck for after your shovel and bottle keep up.
Every item has odds shown as 1-in-X, from common 1-in-100 finds up to a base rarest item around 1-in-90 million as of August 6, 2026. Colored light beams flag rarer spawns (white, green, blue, purple, plus gradient and red variants), and a gradient shows at the top of the beam. On top of rarity, each cleaned item rolls a condition — Okay, Good, Great, Mint or Perfect — that multiplies its Cash value, so a Perfect common can beat a poorly conditioned rare.
Place your rarest, best-condition finds on museum podiums — tourist NPCs pay you every time they view them, which is passive income while you keep digging. Always clean an item before selling, since uncleaned junk sells for scraps and gives no collection credit. Sell duplicate commons for upgrade Cash, and raise your metal detector luck before big hunts so more high-value beams spawn.
