Murder Mystery 2 is the better pick for most players, and the gap is not close on any axis: it holds 29.43 billion visits to 2.64 billion, roughly 300,900 concurrent players to 12,300, and a 90.9% like ratio to 84.4% (all Roblox API, August 19, 2026). Pick Murderers VS Sheriffs DUELS instead if you want short, aim-driven 1v1–4v4 duels with a gem-bought ability loadout rather than a hidden-role game.

Earlier versions of this page argued that Murderers VS Sheriffs DUELS has no trading and no randomised loot, and decided the comparison on that. Both are wrong: the game's own Roblox description says "Collect and trade a variety of stylish revolver and knife skins," and its Cases roll Legendary items at roughly 1–3%. The verdict below is rebuilt from scratch.

One caveat on MM2's player count: our radar logged it between 817,000 and 1,218,000 across August 11–17, then between 223,520 and 633,837 on August 18–19. We quote the recent window because it matches the live API reading, but MM2's event ceiling is far higher than the table row suggests.

Gameplay — What Do You Actually Do?

Murderers VS Sheriffs DUELS

You queue as either a Murderer with a throwing knife or a Sheriff with a revolver, in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4. Servers hold 40 players, but matches are small — the lobby is a queue, not the arena. Rounds are scored in points and your gem payout scales with format and score: a 5-point 1v1 pays 55 Gems, the same result in a 4v4 pays 70, and a 0-point round pays nothing (MVSD wiki, Gems page, last edited October 16, 2025).

There are five active maps — Barn, Prototype, Ridge, Lodge and Aerial — and you vote between three randomly offered options each match. Two more, Refinery and Central, were removed. The wiki's Maps page (last edited July 23, 2026) notes no new map since the Season 1 update: seasons ship skins, not arenas.

Earlier versions of this page described a competitive ranked ladder with visible standings. We could not re-verify that in 2026 — the community wiki has no ranked page and the DevForum log describes progression purely in season/battle-pass terms, so we are recording it as unverified rather than repeating it. The "First / Second / Third Rank" tiers that do exist are Daily Checkpoint rewards worth 50, 100 and 150 Gems plus a spin.

Murder Mystery 2

Each round drops twelve players into a map. One is secretly the Murderer with a knife, one is the Sheriff with a gun, and the rest are unarmed Innocents. If the Sheriff dies their gun drops, and any Innocent who picks it up becomes the Hero — the fourth role in Standard mode. Beyond Standard there are two more modes, Disguises and Assassin, each running as its own place while sharing your account data.

The Murderer's job is isolation and timing; the Sheriff's is deduction under a hard penalty, because a wrong shot removes the only gun on the innocent side. That single rule is why MM2 still works after twelve years. Coins spawn on the map during rounds, capped at 40, or 50 with the Elite game pass (MM2 wiki, Coins page, last edited June 17, 2026).

Combat Depth — Gem Abilities vs Hidden Roles

Murderers VS Sheriffs DUELS is not a pure aim game, which is how our previous draft framed it. Its own store description promises you "unlock and master unique abilities," and those abilities are bought with Gems and carry real combat numbers. The MVSD wiki (Abilities page, last edited October 16, 2025) lists: Propeller (jump boost, 1,250 Gems), Dash (6-second cooldown charge, 2,500 Gems), Shroud (a wall-piercing projectile that cuts enemy vision for 2.5 seconds, 7-second cooldown, 2,500 Gems), Weapon Buff (+45% gun shot speed, +35% knife throw speed, 3,250 Gems), Sprint (+50% speed for 2 seconds, 15-second cooldown, 3,750 Gems) and Soul Reap (consume a fallen enemy's soul for 3 seconds of invulnerability and +60% movement speed, 5,000 Gems). A Bonus Slot ability lets you equip one extra.

That is a loadout game with cooldowns, not a raw duel. Murder Mystery 2 has no equivalent — there is no perk you select before a round and role assignment is random, so every advantage you hold is information you extracted from other players.

Edge: Murderers VS Sheriffs DUELS if you want mechanics you can practise and a loadout you can tune. MM2 if you want the skill test to be about reading people.

Skins, Cases and Trading — Both Games Have an Economy

Murderers VS Sheriffs DUELS sells Cases for Gems — Standard Case #1 and #2, Premium Case #1 and #2, and a Legendary Case. The wiki's Cases page (last edited July 23, 2026) puts a Legendary roll at roughly 1–3% and a Collectible roll at about 0.5%, across a six-tier ladder of Common, Uncommon, Rare, Ultra-Rare, Legendary and Collectible. Skins are tradable; Gems themselves are explicitly not part of trade value.

Murder Mystery 2 runs the deeper market by a wide margin. Its wiki's Boxes page (last edited July 23, 2026) counts eleven unboxable boxes — six knife, three gun, two mystery — each opened for 1,000 Coins, 100 Diamonds or one Mystery Key, with drops listed from Common through Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, Godly and Chroma. Trading itself is a documented mechanic, not a hub: you click a player's name in the top-right player list and hit "Trade" (MM2 wiki, Trading page, last edited August 7, 2026). Trading requires account level 10 or above, a rule added December 28, 2021 to fight duping. Each trade caps at four unique items, with a six-second lock after every item you add, and Effects, emotes and radios cannot be traded at all.

Edge: Murder Mystery 2, decisively. Both gamble on boxes; only MM2's market is big enough to carry its own value lists and demand ratings.

Monetisation — What You Actually Pay For

We re-pulled both universes' game passes from the Roblox game-pass API on August 19, 2026 and checked isForSale on each, because delisted templates otherwise read as live products.

Murderers VS Sheriffs DUELS returns two passes, of which exactly one is on sale: VIP at 399 Robux. It grants an exclusive Hologram set, 10,000 Gems, a VIP chat tag and overhead crown, +20% Gems on purchases, and double Daily Checkpoint rewards. That is not a purely cosmetic pass, and our old page was wrong to call it one — 10,000 Gems buys Soul Reap, Dash and Propeller outright on day one, and Gems can also be bought directly with Robux. Neither game is pay-to-win in the sense of an unbeatable item, but paying in MVSD does shortcut the ability tree.

Its Season Pass is an in-game purchase rather than a Roblox game pass, so it does not appear in the API and we cannot price it from a first-party source. Our previous figure of 639 Robux could not be corroborated anywhere; the community wiki (Season Pass page, last edited July 23, 2026) lists the premium upgrade at 465 Robux. We present that as disputed. What is documented: the free track is automatic, battle passes launched in the December 24, 2023 update, recent seasons ran 10–13 weeks across 15 levels, and Season 12 is summer-themed, with the Sunflower Gun at level 1 and the Sunflower Knife and Sniper at level 15.

Murder Mystery 2 returns fifty game passes, and only one is currently on sale: BUNDLE: Beach at 3,399 Robux, created July 23, 2026, containing an exclusive Godly knife, gun and effect. The other forty-nine are retired limited bundles. Our previous claim that MM2 sells a "Radio" pass is a fabrication — no pass by that name exists in the fifty the API returned. Radios exist in MM2, but as an untradable item type, not a Robux product.

Edge: Murderers VS Sheriffs DUELS, on price alone. Its single live pass costs 399 Robux against MM2's 3,399. Neither game requires a purchase.

Content Cadence — Who Updates More?

Both were touched within a day of each other: MVSD's Roblox update stamp reads August 15, 2026 and MM2's August 14, 2026. That stamp moves for any republish, so cadence is better judged from dated products.

MM2's limited bundles were created on December 20, 2024, April 18, 2025, July 18, 2025, October 18, 2025, December 14, 2025, February 13, 2026 and July 23, 2026 — an every-two-to-three-months event rhythm. MVSD has shipped twelve seasons since battle passes began in December 2023, roughly one every ten weeks, with Season 12 documented on July 23, 2026.

Edge: Roughly even — MVSD ships seasons faster, but the churn is cosmetic.

Earning Free Robux While You Play

Both games leave you idle in useful chunks: MVSD has matchmaking queues and post-duel lobby time, while MM2 leaves you spectating for the rest of a round once you are eliminated — the longer window of the two. • The trader: Murder Mystery 2, without hesitation. Four items per trade, level 10 gate, a documented value system, and a market that has existed for over a decade. MVSD skins trade, but into a far smaller pool.
• The aim-and-movement player: Murderers VS Sheriffs DUELS. Dash, Sprint and Weapon Buff give you mechanics to master, and 1v1 puts the result entirely on you.
• The social player / friend group: Murder Mystery 2. Twelve-player lobbies, hidden roles and the Hero pickup produce reveals that MVSD's duels structurally cannot.
• The squad that wants team play: Murderers VS Sheriffs DUELS. 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 are first-class formats with their own gem payout tables, not side modes.
