Squid Game X vs Murder Mystery 2 — the numbers

Every figure below was pulled live on September 9, 2026 from the Roblox games, votes and game-pass APIs, or from our own radar, which samples both games’ concurrent player counts every six hours. Concurrent-player figures are medians across 28 samples taken September 2–9, 2026, not snapshots — a single reading of either game can be less than half or nearly double the median depending on the hour.

Who actually made Squid Game X

This page used to call Squid Game X a Netflix-licensed product. That was false, and it is worth correcting plainly because the claim is repeated across a lot of Roblox coverage. Squid Game X is published by redifi, a Roblox group with ID 12255003 and 4,413,670 members as of September 9, 2026, owned by the account SGXHOLDER. A Roblox group search for “Squid Game X Studio” returns no such group. The game’s own Roblox description describes it as a survival game “inspired by the show” and asks players to like it — the wording of a fan project, not a licensee. There is no licence announcement from Roblox or Netflix.

Murder Mystery 2 has no IP question at all. It is an original game by the solo developer Nikilis, live since January 18, 2014, which makes it more than twelve years old and one of the oldest games still in the Roblox top tier.

Squid Game X runs 15 rotating modes in 80-player servers; Murder Mystery 2 runs one format in 12-player servers.

What a round is actually like

Murder Mystery 2 runs a single, unchanging round format in a 12-player server. Each round the game secretly assigns one Murderer with a knife, one Sheriff with a gun and the rest Innocents. Innocents survive and try to identify the killer; the Sheriff has the only weapon that can stop them; if the Sheriff dies the gun drops and any Innocent can pick it up. That loop has not meaningfully changed in twelve years, and the variety comes entirely from the twelve people in the lobby rather than from the game.

Squid Game X does the opposite: one format, many modes, in a server that holds 80. Its live description lists 15 modes in rotation — Red Light, Green Light; Honeycomb; Pentathlon; Hide & Seek (Keys & Knives); Jump Rope; Sky Squid; Mingle; Night Brawl; Rebellion; Tug of War; Marbles; Rock, Paper, Scissors Minus One; Glass Bridge; Final Dinner; and Squid Game. Three of those (Hide & Seek, Jump Rope and Sky Squid) are tagged new by the developers. Rounds are elimination-based, so a bad Red Light means you spectate.

The practical difference is lobby size. In MM2 you are one of twelve and you personally matter every round; in Squid Game X you are one of eighty and most rounds you are watching within a couple of minutes. If you want to be involved constantly, that favours MM2. If you want spectacle and less pressure, it favours Squid Game X. Monetization: ten live passes vs three

This is the section that had the most invented material, so here are both shops exactly as the Roblox game-pass API returned them on September 9, 2026.

Squid Game X sells ten passes, all of them currently on sale, totalling 8,616 Robux: More Quests (75), Extra Speed (249), VIP (349), +2 Marbles (349), Permanent Extra Life! (399), Glass Maker (649), Elite Guard (749), Permanent Guard Pass (1,499), Permanent Detective (1,799) and Permanent Frontman (2,499). Several are not cosmetic in any sense: Extra Speed raises walk and sprint speed by 20%, Glass Maker “permanently tell[s] which glass is fake or real”, Permanent Extra Life! grants a standing extra life, and +2 Marbles hands you two extra marbles in the marbles round. VIP, at 349, gives double coins on all non-guard earnings plus a chat tag — that is the whole pass. Murder Mystery 2 has 72 game passes in its catalogue but only three on sale: Radio (475), Elite (499) and BUNDLE: Beach (3,399), which was created July 23, 2026 and is flagged in its own description as available for a limited time. The other 69 are retired GODLY and BUNDLE knife passes that were taken off sale after their events ended — they exist as inventory items and trade goods, not as things you can buy. Elite is the one to know about: its store text lists 1.5x XP rates, an Elite name tag, an exclusive knife, a coin bag limit raised to 50, an Elite radio skin, an Elite effect and an Elite pet. That is a progression buff, not decoration.

So the honest reading is the reverse of what this page previously said. MM2 has by far the smaller live storefront and the smaller ongoing spend, while Squid Game X asks for more Robux and sells more round-affecting advantages. Ten Squid Game X passes are on sale (8,616 R$); only three of Murder Mystery 2's 72 passes are.

Updates, events and codes

Squid Game X is the more actively updated of the two right now. Its description carries a Season 3 banner and version V11.0.0, and the Roblox virtual-events API shows an event titled “NEW GAMEMODE??” that was created on September 4, 2026 and is scheduled to run September 27 to October 22, 2026 — a dated commitment to a new mode, not a rumour. The description also carries a rotating code slot tied to like milestones; the current one is posted there with the next promised at 1.4 million likes. Murder Mystery 2 moves in event cycles rather than continuous patches. Its Summer Event 2026 ran until August 23, 2026, as recorded on our Murder Mystery 2 update log, and the Beach bundle that shipped with it is still purchasable, which is unusual for an MM2 event pass. On codes, MM2 has none working — our Murder Mystery 2 codes page last confirmed that on September 6, 2026, even though the game description still points at Nikilis’ social accounts for knife giveaways.

Player base and staying power

The scale gap is not close. MM2’s 30,302,670,689 visits are 13.7 times Squid Game X’s 2,203,922,300, and its 23,971,515 favourites are 13.3 times Squid Game X’s 1,796,256. Its median concurrent count of 263,893 over September 2–9, 2026 is 16.5 times Squid Game X’s 15,992. MM2 has had twelve years to accumulate that, but the concurrent numbers are current, not historical — it is still enormous in September 2026.

Squid Game X’s advantage is satisfaction rather than size. Its like ratio is 93.7% against MM2’s 90.8%, and it is the more volatile of the two in a way that suggests event-driven interest: its observed range over the week was 8,146 to 30,070, a 3.7x spread between its quietest and busiest samples, against MM2’s 3.5x. Both dip hard in the early-morning UTC samples and peak in the evening, so if you check either game’s player count once and quote it, you will be wrong by a factor of two in one direction or the other.

Which should you play?

• You have one slot and want the safest pick: Murder Mystery 2. Sixteen times the live population means instant matchmaking at any hour, and only three passes on sale means almost nothing to buy.
• You like reading people and bluffing: Murder Mystery 2. A 12-player server is small enough that you can track everyone, which is the entire point of the format.
• You want variety inside one game: Squid Game X. Fifteen modes in rotation, three of them added recently, with a new one scheduled for late September 2026.
• You want big, chaotic lobbies: Squid Game X. 80 players per server against MM2’s 12.
• You are playing free and intend to stay free: Murder Mystery 2. Its live shop is 4,373 Robux total and none of it is required; Squid Game X’s is 8,616 Robux and includes round-affecting passes like Glass Maker.
• You want something to collect and trade: Murder Mystery 2. The 69 retired GODLY and BUNDLE passes are the supply side of a knife economy that Squid Game X has no equivalent to.
• You want free codes to chase: Squid Game X. It runs like-milestone codes; MM2 had none working as of September 6, 2026.
